The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) have announced the results of their latest Project Grant competition. Two teams from the Cancer Research Centre (CRC) have received funding to advance promising work in oncology and biomedical research. Translational development of AIMZ-938 as a precision therapy for treatment-refractory colorectal cancers

This project aims to validate the therapeutic potential of AIMZ-938, a precision approach designed to target specific mechanisms present in tumour cells while limiting effects on healthy tissues. Already promising in preclinical models, AIMZ-938 will be evaluated in models of treatment-refractory colorectal cancer, with the goal of supporting eventual progression toward clinical studies.
Pharmaceutical and preclinical development of a synthetic protectin DX analogue for the management of acute and chronic pain

This project focuses on a non-opioid approach that aims to activate the body’s natural pathways for resolving inflammation, rather than simply blocking pain. The team will advance a synthetic protectin DX analogue toward potential clinical evaluation by assessing its manufacturing process, stability, safety and efficacy in models of neuropathic pain.
