Back to the list

The CRC recently welcomed Professor Dmitry Kretov as a regular member. Prof. Kretov conducts his research within the Oncology axis of the CHU de Québec–Université Laval Research Centre and holds a faculty position in the Department of Molecular Biology, Medical Biochemistry, and Pathology. He earned his PhD from the University of Paris-Saclay and completed postdoctoral research at Boston University.

His research aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that regulate mRNA homeostasis in cells, from early development and differentiation to cancerous transformation. To achieve this, his team combines various experimental systems, from mammalian cell lines to the zebrafish model, to study these fundamental biological processes. He is the first researcher at our centre to utilize this model, bringing a unique and new expertise that will enhance collaborations, open new experimental avenues, and strengthen the centre’s capacity for innovative research in cellular and molecular biology.

In addition to studying mRNA regulation, Prof. Kretov develops innovative molecular tools to analyze and manipulate RNA-protein interactions. During his postdoctoral work, he developed RBPscan, a high-throughput screening method that enables the in vivo quantification of these interactions. This approach allows large-scale identification of RNA-binding protein (RBP) motifs directly within the cellular context and forms a central component of his laboratory’s research program.

The CRC warmly welcomes him!
