Tangible support for the next generation: nearly $90,000 awarded through the CRC Excellence Awards and Scholarships Program

Back to the list

On August 27 and 28, the 29th edition of the Students’ Scientific Day (JSE) was held at Université Laval’s Ferdinand-Vandry Pavilion, with nearly 160 registered participants and around one hundred oral and poster presentations. The JSE aims to provide students with an opportunity to present the progress of their research to the entire Université Laval Cancer Research Center (CRC) community, thereby strengthening interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches in cancer research in Québec. Once again this year, the CRC Relève Committee successfully organized this major event!

This year, the JSE had invited Prof. Pierre Hainaut, Director of Cancéropôle CLARA and of IARC in Lyon, who tragically passed away in July 2025. The CRC pays tribute to him: his collaborative spirit, values, and commitment to the fight against cancer have left a profound mark on his colleagues, and his legacy will continue to inspire the scientific community.

We would like to thank Dr. Meriem Messaoudene (McGill University), who generously agreed, on short notice, to serve as our keynote speaker. In addition to her inspiring presentation, she was exceptionally available and engaged, taking the time to interact with students and evaluate their work with both kindness and rigor.

Several prizes for oral and poster presentations were awarded at the end of the JSE thanks to the support of the CRC (click here for the full list).

This scientific event was also the occasion to announce the recipients of the Excellence Scholarship Program, as well as several other awards and distinctions granted by the CRC. Here is the list:
